Play room gets makeover

I’m glad to see that Charlene’s artistic side keeps on coming through. Our office benefited from it again this week when she brought in 6 youth-sized chairs that she had decorated especially for the play area.
The chairs, originally manufactured in Hickory, NC by the Southern Desk Co., are of heavy, solid oak and feel like they could stand up to a lot and it appears that they already had. Charlene obtained them at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore (http://www.habitat.org/env/restores.aspx). They had certainly seen better days but the chairs were so well built that she decided to give them a new lease on life. We like going to find treasures like this in the ReStore because it’s fun and the money we spend there goes to a most worthy cause.

With a thorough cleaning and hours of sanding she brought them back to a situation she could work with. She chose the ones with the nicest looking wood grain to have translucent chalk paint. Those are the ones that have the solid color in the “after” photo. Then the two that needed the most effort were given multi-color paint and she even added detailed pictures on the seats. Those required infinite patience and a lot of work by hand.
Not to leave any work unfinished, Charlene then touched up the paint on the play room walls and brought in some colorful new shelving for the toys, books and puzzles. Now the whole room looks just great! We know that lots of kids seem to enjoy the play room and we want them to think of their chiropractic experience as a healthy family event and something fun to look forward to.

Children benefit the most from chiropractic care because it provides an opportunity that many adults never had, the chance to grow up free of the vertebral subluxations. The obvious benefit is that they get the chance to express more of their own potentials. Having a welcoming place, sized just for kids, helps to give them the message that “This is for you, not just grown-ups and certainly not just for people with back aches.”
